The Villages in the Aure and Louron valleys of Pyrénées2vallées / P2V
In the Aure valley, at an altitude of 1050 m and culminating at 1687 m, the commune of Gouaux covers 650 hectares, 456 of which are communal forest.
The village has always been strongly attached to its forest since the Marquis of Montespan Roger of Spain donated it to the commune in 1532. This forest brings wealth and notoriety, which has given the village an elegant architecture nestled in a green and quiet setting, just like its peaceful campsite in the centre of the village. Remarkable festival on the first weekend in August!
Ideal for family outings to discover the fauna and flora, with the added bonus of a goat farm to visit with direct cheese sales.
The church of Notre-Dame, originally Romanesque, was rebuilt in the 19th century with its baroque interior and organ. Its originality lies in the charm of its imperial roof. A pure beauty of Romanesque art, the Saint-Etienne chapel, with its magnificent paintings, is a listed monument from the 13th century. Finally, the astonishing public library scale in the centre of the village is a must-see!
