The village of Germ is the highest in the Louron valley, with an altitude of around 1350 metres. Located at the foot of the Peyragudes ski resort, it includes the Peyresourde side of the valley as well as the hamlet of Balestas. The village was completely destroyed by fire in 1690, then gradually rebuilt afterwards.
The village church, built in the 16th century, is named after the Invention of Saint Stephen, the first martyr of the Christian religion. Subsequently, two chapels were built in the village. The first, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, was built in 1597. The second, built later (1832), was named Our Lady of Seven Sorrows.
