Calm and pleasure!
Located at 1000 m of altitude and 2 km from Arreau, the village of Barrancoueu, is one of the most peaceful villages. It is known as a water village because of the large number of springs that gush out of the ground, one of which is ferruginous and often used for its therapeutic virtues. A small but lively village, Barrancoueu hosts many events throughout the year: flea markets, festivals, concerts, theatres. There are many walks in the vicinity, and many signposted footpaths leading to the Hourquette d'Ancizan.

Historically, Barrancoueu is the village of the tistailhs (hazelnut baskets) because the inhabitants made a living from making these baskets which they sold at the market. On the village coat of arms, you will find a basket, testimony to the history of the site. Located in the centre of the village, you will discover an emblematic monument of Barrancoueu which is none other than the church of Saint-Martin, dating from the 12th century, it is part of the Romanesque period and has sumptuous stained glass windows renovated at the end of the 20th century. On your way, you will see the Puyo house, built in 1818 with an architectural style typical of Pyrenean houses, two magnificent wash houses from the beginning of the 20th century and the Bernadas fountain.
