Gistain valley and Posets Maladeta Nature Park

valle chistau

The Gistaín Valley, or Bal de Chistau (in local dialect), is an unspoilt jewel in the heart of a magnificent wilderness setting. The road, that starts in Salinas and ends in Gistaín, bears witness to how isolated this valley was for many years: it is carved out of the mountain and walking it can be a little scary at first, but it is well worth it.

The valley immediately places you in a high mountain setting: the landscape with seemingly inaccessible peaks, typical Pyrenean villages such as San Juan de Plan or Gistaín, traditions strongly anchored in the customs of the inhabitants (night of the "trucos", descent of the "falleta", carnival)... the whole valley breathes authenticity.

As the gateway to the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park, the possibilities for hiking in the valley are endless: from simple walks (paths along the banks of the river Cinqueta) to the most demanding hikes (Ibón de Millás...). Outside the boundaries of the Natural Park, the most famous hike is to the bón de Plan, a magnificent natural lake surrounded by mystery and legend.

The accommodation and gastronomy are on a par with the rest of the valley's wonders. An ideal setting to recharge your batteries, isolate yourself and, above all, to enjoy yourself.
